      Interview Criteria

Only applications submitted through ERAS will be considered. Interviews begin in late September and continue into early January. We may stop selecting applicants to interview early once we have interviewed the best 10-20 applicants per slot that fulfill the most requirements below. The final deadline to submit information to ERAS is December 15.

 To be interviewed applicants MUST have ALL of the

  following MINIMAL criteria:

 
1)  U.S. Citizen, permanent alien (Green Card), or the appropriate visa
2)  Medical school is WHO acceptable
3)  If IMG, must be ECFMG certified (we may interview you if you are not ECFMG certified yet, but we will not rank you until you become so)
4)  Passed USMLE or Comlex Step I. Cannot fail any Step exam more than twice. (i.e. 2 failures are allowed for each step).
5)  No more than 3 total failures on USMLE
6)  State Law: date of first TAKING USMLE Step I and passing STEP 3 within 7 years
7)  No more than 5 years elapsed from end of formal training or possession of US medical license.
8)  Graduated from medical school by January 1, 2007 or sooner.
 
 
The following are preferred, but not required for an interview. Interviews and ranking will be granted based on applicants
satisfying the most criteria below:
 
1)  Medical School: LCME accredited US Medical school or Osteopathic medical school
2)  Has rotated in this program as a medical student and demonstrated superior skills in all 6 competencies (medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal skills, practiced based learning, systems bases practices and professionalism)
3)  High USMLE or COMLEX Board scores, no failures
4)  Successful completion of USMLE or COMLEX step II including clinical skills. (NOTE: this is a requirement for IMG’s to be ECFMG certified)
5)  Medical School graduation date: more recent is preferred
6)  Dean’s letter/Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE): grades and rotation evaluation comments that are favorable
7)  Internal Medicine and Family Medicine rotation grade of A (or equivalent)
8)  Lack of felony conviction or negative information on internet (google, myspace, etc…)
9)  Proven affinity for Family Medicine: FMIG activities, personal statement, Family Medicine electives, letter of recommendation from family doctors, etc…
10) If a transfer from other specialty has excellent evaluations/references including letter from Program Director
11) Location: living in Las Vegas or nearby or strong ties to Las Vegas
12) Lack of gaps in training or appropriate explanation of gaps
